I've always said it takes a special person to teach jr high. My thought this morning,
"It takes a special person to be a coaches wife!"I've been married to a coach now for 10 football seasons and it's not the easiest life, nor is it normal! My husband is obsessed with football and absolutely loves the game. It's more a hobby than a job. One good thing about football season is that it only last about 4 months a year and not any longer.
My job is to be a single parent 6 and sometimes 7 days a week and try to be a supportive wife to Robby. Every year I cry (my mid-season breakdown) and swear that I hate football. Robby leaves the house every morning at 5:30 am and gets home about 7pm (not bad...in years past it's been 8 or 9). He spends about an hour or 2 with me and Anthony then heads to the study to work on whatever it is he does til about 10 or 11...then comes to bed. Friday is game night (and in this district sometimes Saturday night). On game night he gets home at 2:30 a.m., sleeps about 3 hours and gone by 6 or 7 the next morning and works at least 1/2 a day.
I love Robby, and I do love football...but last night was my first break-down this season. I figured since this week was a Saturday night game and it wasn't til 7 pm that Rob wouldn't have to leave for work until about noon...man was I wrong. Last night when Robby told me he was leaving at 8 o'clock this morning I completely broke down.
That is just NUTS to work a total of 18 hours for a 3 hours game!!!!! That's 8 a.m. til about 2 a.m....a total of 18 hours. I have to keep telling myself "whatever...it will be over soon". I'm not sure if it ever gets any easier...but I'm in it for the long run! Robby's dream is to become a high school football Head Coach...and then one day an AD (athletic director)...so this will be my life for quite some time. It could be worse...he could work out of town I guess...or I could have 6 kids and married to a football coach (like my friend Lori)!
I hope we win tonight. Anthony is excited about going. He's been saying, "daddy's football game" all day. He is now putting 3 and 4 words together!
